Well, that'll happen (adapted from the Eagle-Lion Films motion picture!)

And now

Well, that'll happen in a movie.

The final scenes of Raw Deal (1948), directed by Anthony Mann, starring Dennis O'Keefe, Raymond Burr, and Claire Trevor

Wait, where's the ship at the end?

Made me curious (...why the hell would there be a candelabra on a ship?) so I looked it up; the full movie's on YouTube as well, and the Wikipedia article has a pretty detailed synopsis.

The ship is Joe's opportunity to flee the country, which he gives up to confront Rick (resulting in their mutual demise). The big fight takes place on land, nowhere near the ship.

I haven't read the whole funnybook, of course, but while the movie involves Joe's love triangle (Joe gives up his chance to escape with Bad Girl Pat to rescue Good Girl Ann from Rick), I imagine the comic completely jettisons the "dames" and all that "mushy stuff" to concentrate on two sweaty guys struggling with each other GRUNT UNF and burning and dying because CRIME DOES NOT PAY and so forth.

And the moral of the story is, Jim Hammond will always win a gunfight.
